Our programme of walks are suitable for all ages and abilities and takes you through thousands of years of history from ancient geological transformations, Roman settlement, Industrial heritage and much more.

Who we are
RockandFell is based on the edge of the Peak District National Park. Owner Paul Besley has over 35 years walking experience, much of it spent in the England, Scotland, Wales and especially the Peak District where we are constantly exploring how man has interacted with the countryside. Our backgrounds are drawn from National Park Rangers, walking guides and mountain leaders, all with specialist knowledge of history, geology, flora and fauna, industrial heritage. Importantly we are good story tellers and enjoy passing our knowledge on in an entertaining and often thought provoking way. Just as importantly we are experienced walking group leaders and all are qualified first aiders.
RockandFell develop walks that are both interesting and enjoyable. We are not interested in a trudge from A-B, RockandFell walks are about taking time to enjoy the countryside, learn some interesting facts and have time to take in the view and just as importantly the wildlife and flora encountered as we walk. RockandFell walks are meant to be a group experience so we arrange different styles of walks in appropriate areas to ensure everyone has an enjoyable experience. Our clients are all ages from all over the world. On some walks we enlist the help of local specialists and artisans to give more depth to a local or specialist topic. We try to hold true to the belief that a walk should be enjoyed.

We believe walking should be fun. So that's why we have a unique walks programme that has 3 grades of walk, easy, medium, challenging, because we know that everyone has diifferent requirements and there is nothing worse than being on a walk that is unsuitable. We also think that people want more from a walk than a trudge from the morning start to the evenings end. That is why we bring the landscape to life as we move through it, telling the history in an entertaining way. We think a walk is better if at the end, you have enjoyed yourself and also feel you know a little more about the landscape. These are not history lessons or walking challenges. RockandFell History Walks or fun. That's what we believe a walk should be.
